WHAT IS TNR?

Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) is a humane and effective approach to helping community cats, or unowned cats, who live outdoors. TNR refers to the trapping, neutering/spaying, vaccinating, and release of community cats.

Why TNR works!

TNR reduces the community cat population by sterilizing outdoor felines to prevent breeding. Cats can get pregnant as young as four months old, and give birth up to three times a year. An average litter of kittens is five, which means one female cat can birth up to X cats in one year.

Due to this, TNR helps reduce shelter intake and euthanasia, reduces calls to animal control, and saves the lives of cats.

The TNR Process

Step 1: A colony caretaker or concerned citizen will contact Henderson Cats at [email protected] for help TNring their colony.

Step 2: Henderson Cats’ Volunteers will coordinate dates for trapping cats using cat traps- a safe, humane way of trapping feral cats.

Step 3: Trapped cats are transported to Heaven Can Wait Animal Society for their spay/neuter surgery and vaccinations. It costs $60 to fix and vaccinate one cat. Their ear will be tipped to signify that they have been fixed (this ensures the same cat is not trapped for TNR more than once).

Step 4: Cats are released back to their colony 24-48 hours post-surgery.First, a colony caretaker contacts Henderson Cats, citing that they need help TNRing their outdoor cats.
